Dulse is one such seaweed that is also frequently consumed in Canada, Ireland, and Northern European countries, and is an excellent source of important vitamins and nutrients. Some Irish communities even make sandwiches consisting of just bread and dulse.
Dulse is a red seaweed that possesses a mildly spicy, salted flavor, and is traditionally found in a dehydrated form in health food stores or fish markets. It can be eaten in this form or soaked in water and added to soups and salads, stir-fires, and other dishes. When rehydrated, it is slightly chewy.

As for its nutritional content, dulse is extremely high in vitamins B6 and B12, as well as iron, potassium and fluoride. Unlike other seaweeds, it is relatively low in sodium. Dulse also contains a large shopping list of other vitamins and nutrients, including vitamins C, E, and A,, magnesium, calcium, dietary fiber and protein. Additionally, dulse is a natural source of iodine, essential for thyroid gland health and thyroid hormone secretion. Rich with trace minerals from sea elements, dulce can quickly become a welcome accompaniment or garnish to many meals, or can simply be enjoyed as healthy snack

Most seaweeds are green, brown, or red. The two major groups of seaweeds that people know are wracks (brown) and kelps (green, such as sea lettuce). Some people have also heard of Carrageen Moss and Dulse (red). Red and brown live exclusively in saltwater, but the green may also live in fresh water. The Sargasso Sea is a large ocean in the western Atlantic made up of seaweeds. The drift plants of the genus Sargassum accumulate there. Ecologically, seaweeds are very important. In most oceans, they dominate the rocky inter tidal. They dominate rocky surfaces in the sub tidal in temperate and polar regions. They can be found as deep as 250 meters in waters that are particularly clear. Seaweeds are found in all the world’s oceans and seas. They are not poisonous and many of them are considered to be great food delicacies. The main types of seaweeds are Nori, Kombu, and Wakame. Arame seaweed is the mildest tasting of the sea vegetables.
