Our Dulse flakes are naturally salty and very tasty so you have to try some in a fresh batch of popcorn! Yes we just said seaweed is ‘tasty’ and you just may agree! Try crumbling it on air-popped popcorn and it is really good!
Dulse, a seaweed common in Ireland, Iceland, and Canada. It is a highly nutritious food, containing a lot of minerals, vitamins, protein and all of the trace elements we need. That’s a pretty good deal I think!
Ingredients
- 4 ounces corn kernels for popping
- 1 ounce dried dulse flakes from Florida Herb House
- grapeseed oil or butter spray [ optional, helps seaweed stick on the popcorn]
Just throw the popcorn in the popper, and when its ready spritz with a bit of oil. Crumble the Dulse with your hands and sprinkle it on the popcorn. This makes 2 big servings [you know, for movies!]

Dulse is becoming more widely used in American health cuisine because of its great supply of fiber and protein. It is also packed with vitamins and minerals—most notably, vitamin B and iron. All you raw foodies out there may be up to your eyeballs in fiber, but consider dulse as a great way to sneak protein and iron into your diet, especially if you are vegan. Its distinct flavor makes it a unique addition to soups and salads. You can also grind dried dulse into a powder that can be sprinkled over dishes or added to dressings and dips.

Summary
Dulse is an excellent source of phytochemicals and minerals, and a superior source of iodine.
The complex polysaccharides in the herb make it a gentle alternative to psyllium or senna.
Precautions
Don't overdue, and avoid it entirely if you suffer hyperthyroidism. You only need a few flakes, or as little as a quarter-teaspoon a day, to get your mineral needs, and it is best to get your minerals from a variety of whole food and whole herb sources. Don't use on a daily basis for more than 2 weeks at a time, taking a 2 week break before using again. This will prevent you from overdosing iodine with potential imbalance in thyroid function. For periodic use only and not to be taken for extended periods of time. Not to be used while pregnant.
